Icebergs in Antarctica circulate with the Antarctic circumpolar current. This is the strongest current in the world and moves more than 9.5 billion cubic feet per second. Icebergs sometimes spin out of this current and drift. The Iceberg graveyard near Penola Bay is an area where many icebergs from the Weddell Sea end up creating a spectacular site. Icebergs come from a glacier or an ice shelf. An iceberg is only one-fifth above the water; the other four-fifths is submerged. Icebergs can have many different forms, depending on their origin and age. They are classified as tabular, rounded, or irregular. The smallest football-size chunks less than 2 m in diameter, are called brash ice. Larger pieces that float low are called growlers because waves washing over them produce a growling sound. Bergy bits are ice pieces between 2 and 5 meters.
